We are happy to announce this year’s West Coast colloquium taking place in Southern Oregon. This “peer-only” gathering will take place at beautiful Camp Latgawa, the site of several colloquiums over the last 10 years. Natural builders from around the region and the country will come together to re-connect, reflect, and rejuvenate during a week of informal presentations, conversations, and hands-on building projects.
About the Natural Building Colloquium:
The Natural Building Colloquium began almost 15 years ago as a way for the members of the fledgling Natural Building movement to gather, share information, learn from one another, get inspired, and basically have a good time. The movement has grown a lot since then, and the colloquiums continue to be a valuable opportunity for people in the field to connect with one another.
If you did not receive an invitation to this event and would like one, please contact James: james@housealive.org.

The Water Woman Festival, October 1- 4, 2009 in Joshua Tree, California.
The Mission of the Water Woman Festival: To promote new ways of living in
agreement with the principles and patterns of nature through the creation
and physical demonstration of art, design & lifestyle practices at the
cutting-edge of ecological function and consciousness; To offer
opportunities to collectively express our creativity and deep ,inner
connectedness with the Earth; To present ancient & cutting edge concepts and
technologies that embrace the intelligence of natural systems; To inspire
and empower people to bring this knowledge back home where they can live in
ways that are more comfortable, more affordable, more beautiful and more
sustainable than ever before.
The Vision of the Water Woman Festival: Our ongoing goal is to find and
develop permanent and welcoming locations for Water Woman Festivals that
lead to the building of regional educational institutes and eco-villages
combining Permaculture Design and Functional Art. To demonstrate ecological
design and art in ways that are both truly sustainable and radically
beautiful; To hold these spaces as places for ritual gatherings to
acknowledge our collective power to connect with and heal our planet; To
build real Eco-communities where new ideas, technologies and ways of living
come into practice.
Art in Action at the Water Woman Festival
Art inspires us to act; Radical design and creative applications of
technology raise consciousness and demonstrate better ways of living
sustainably. Designers and artists will be given the challenge of creating
highly functional art that can last 200 years or more. Art that provides
more energy than it took to build. Art that has a small carbon foot print.
Art made of re-purposed materials.
May we add you to our growing community of natural builders, educators,
artists, designers, and visionaries endorsing and/or participating with the
Water Woman Project & The Water Woman Festival? Would you like to have a
Cob Workshop? Take the Sustainable Art Challenge?

It’s the sixth year that the PeaceWeavers have hosted this family-friendly event at the Thunder Mountain Retreat Center near Bath, New York, offering very full days of teaching, learning, building, and networking. Top experts, authors, educators, innovators, designers, and builders offer hands-on experience and educational presentations with “close to the earth” building materials and lifestyle choices.
But in the end, there’s one really important thing that makes these events amazing. Sure, there’s all kinds of new, fun, valuable things to learn — tactile, hands-in-the-mud stuff that you just don’t get from the books or the internet. Sure, people can pick up tricks and tips to save precious days and months of misdirected time and effort, as well as thousands of dollars of misspent money, on their own projects and in their lives. Sure, there’s the great food, the beautiful natural setting, the music, and so much more. But in the end, the most rewarding and inspiring thing is the rare privilege of being with so many talented, smart, caring, willing, extraordinary people… some of whom just happen to be world-class natural builders, sustainable thinkers, and do-gooders. It’s the people — all of them — who come together at Thunder Mountain that are the best thing of all.

VBC9 will include hands-on education in permaculture design and construction, ecological building, and public art. All projects are built through collaboration, community conversations and commitment of a neighborhood to strengthen itself. Everyone is invited to attend evening events at a central location, to participate in workshops or listen to visionaries speak about various aspects of sustainable culture.
VBC will feature projects located in or adjacent to the public right of way and private projects that support community in various neighborhoods. Private site projects will be structures or systems that are built by and available to the communities concerned with that site, and hopefully available to some extent to the larger community. These will include public squares and meeting houses, community kiosks and benches, solar-powered and artistic innovations, and many other new ideas. Each project is initiated and managed by neighborhood groups with support from the VBC Placemaking Committee. More information:
